Starting Out
Using the short reins allows the parent to have control while skiing with the child and enables the first-time skier to get the feel of his or her skis and boots.
Use of the “starter reins” is recommended for first-time skiers.
1. Position the belt high on the chest so that the rein’s tension from above provides a high center of gravity. Adjust the belt so that it is snug, yet comfortable.
2. While in the snowplow stance, place the child between your skis in front of you. Position his or her skis in a wedge. It will take some practice to maintain the wedge, but your skis will act as a guide.
3. Proceed down the slopes gently and cautiously, taking care not to surpass the ability to ski in the snowplow stance safely.
Enjoy Greater Freedom
The long reins are the “teaching reins” and allow the parent to ski behind the child in the snowplow position, gently controlling the child’s speed and direction, until until he or she gets the feel of skiing on their own.
- Adjust the belt as you would while using the short Reins. (Take care to remove reins before boarding lifts to avoid entanglement.)
- Begin on the easiest novice slopes and gradually progress to more challenging trails as you and the child become comfortable using the Wee Ski harness.
- To initiate a turn, gently pull on the left rein to turn left and the right rein to turn right.
- And just like that, your little skier will be skiing on his or her own.
Snowboarding with Wee Ski
1.Position the belt high on the side of chest so that the rein’s tension from above provides a high center of gravity. Adjust the belt so that it is snug, yet comfortable.
2. While sitting down, place the child in front of you. Position his or her snowboard in front of them. Allow the child to gently start moving down the slope. (This is easier if there is a slope, rather than on the flats).
3. Once the Reins are tight, you will get up with your snowboard. Proceed down the slopes gently and cautiously, taking care not to surpass the ability to safely board down the slope.
4. To initiate a turn, gently pull on the left rein to turn left and the right rein to turn right. And just like that, your little boarder will be boarding on his or her own.
